1. What information do we collect and what do we do with it?
When you enroll in any program on our site we collect your first name, last name, and email address as part of the registration process. You are required to provide your legal name as it appears on a current (non-expired) legal form of identification.
After your initial registration you may change the name on your account to your preferred name or pseudonym. However, if you do not provide your legal name during your initial registration we reserve the right to suspend or cancel your access to the learning material on this site.
Minister Verification: Your legal name is stored in a secure database and will never be given out unless legally required by a court order. We retain your name on file only so that we can respond to requests for verification of the ordained status of people claiming to be Ministers of The Satanic Temple.
For example: If someone attempts to register with a County Clerk as an ordained Minister of The Satanic Temple so that they can legally solemnize a marriage, that County Clerk may contact us for verification. They will provide us with the name and Minister ID number on the Minister's ID card or certificate, and we will respond by saying "yes" or "no" to confirm that the name and ID combination matches what we have on file.
Email Marketing: We may send you emails about our program, registration, your course progress, the status of your ordination, or other updates. We may also use your email to inform you about changes to the program, survey you about your usage, or collect your opinion.
Background Check: Candidates enrolled in the Ordination Program must submit to a background check to complete the program and become ordained. When you have completed all of the other coursework, you will receive an email from the vendor we use to perform the background check, Inflection Risk Solutions, LLC d/b/a GoodHire. That email will provide a link that allows you to log into their system and provide the required information.
We do not store the personal information that you provided to the vendor in our systems. We do check the information that you provide to the vendor, however, to verify that it matches the identity you used to sign up as a candidate.
2. How do you get my consent?
When you provide us with personal information to sign up on the website, register as an ordination candidate or non-ordination student, participate in the coursework and program, or purchase items from the Minister Supply Store, you imply that you consent to our collecting that information and using it for that specific reason only. You also imply that we may use your email address to send you critical notifications pertaining to your progress in the program, the status of your ordination, or your purchases.
If we ask for your personal information for a secondary reason, like marketing, we will either ask you directly for your expressed consent, or provide you with an opportunity to say no.
How do I withdraw my consent?
If after you opt-in, you change your mind, you may withdraw your consent for us to contact you, for the continued collection, use or disclosure of your information, at anytime, by contacting us at email@example.com using the email subject line "Ordination Program Consent".
We may disclose your personal information if we are required by law to do so or if you violate our Terms of Service.
Our coursework is hosted by Thinkific Labs Inc. (“Thinkific”). They provide us with the learning management platform that allows you to enroll in and complete the coursework required for becoming part of our ordained ministry. Their systems also handle the processing of your payment when you enroll as a student, register as a candidate, or purchase your ordination renewal.
For more information about the privacy of the information you provide when you enroll in coursework on this platform, please see Thinkific's Privacy Statement.
The background check required for successful completion of the ordination program is performed by Inflection Risk Solutions, LLC d/b/a GoodHire. We do not store the personal information that you provided to the vendor in our systems. We do check the information that you provide to the vendor, however, to verify that it matches the identity you used to sign up as a candidate.
The sale of products through the Minister Supplies Store is handled through Shopify. Because you provide personal and financial information directly to Shopify during each sale, we never have access to this personal information.
All payments are managed through either Thinkific (for online coursework) or Shopify (for physical products). The handling of payment information through those vendors is subject to their respective privacy statements.
5. Third Party Services
Certain providers may be located in or have facilities that are located in a different jurisdiction than either you or us. If you elect to proceed with a transaction that involves the services of a third-party service provider, then your information may become subject to the laws of the jurisdiction(s) in which that service provider or its facilities are located.
As an example, if you are located in Canada and your transaction is processed by a payment gateway located in the United States, then your personal information used in completing that transaction may be subject to disclosure under United States legislation, including the Patriot Act.
When you click on links on our course site, they may direct you away from our site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites and encourage you to read their privacy statements.
To protect your personal information, the vendors we work with for sales transactions follow industry best practices to make sure your information is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed.
